Panaji (Goa)
In what could spell trouble for the Congress, the BJP has submitted some confidential details against its opposition for blatant violation of the election code of conduct.
“Certain issues I have confidentially written to the ECI. If there is no action within seven days, I will release those documents. There were attempts to sabotage the election and it needs to be investigated,” Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told a press conference, one and half hour after the voting process concluded this evening.
He clarified that the election office in Goa did a commendable job by cracking down on the illegal activities and taking action against the violators. However, he added, the election office needs to thoroughly investigate into the “confidential details” submitted to it.
The CM mentioned that election commission of India should infact had taken suo-motu cognizance of the offense and fled criminal case against the violators.
Contesting for the sixth time from his bastion, Parrikar is confident to win the by-election with a substantial margin. “The voting in Panjim was 70 percent and Valpoi constituency was 79.80 percent. This indicates that people responded to my campaign,” he claimed.
Parrikar also alleged that Congress acted like goondas during the by election process.
