Usha Waman Bale, a writer and retired teacher, expired on Saturday after prolonged illness. She was 65.

Her Konkani book ‘Potpuja’ on Goa’s authentic traditional recipes, had broken all the records of Goan books.

With half of the copies of the first edition sold out in pre-booking drive even before it was published on 15th February 2015, the second edition was published within 18 days.

Its third edition was published within 6 months and the fourth edition is also presently out of print.

The unique book had become popular due to a dynamic time-table of breakfast and meals as well as several unknown recipes.

The English edition of the book was published in January 2016 while the Marathi version of the book is on the way of getting published.

Her new Konkani book “Sanna Khanna” सणां खाणां (traditional recipes of Hindu festivals) was published before Chovoth festival.

She is survived by her husband Waman Bale and two daugthers – Gauri Telang and Dipti Prabhu Malayar and grandchildren.

The funeral procession would leave her Ambaulim residence in Quepem on Sunday at 11.30 am.
