IMD ISSUES HEVAY RAIN WARNING; ASK FISHERMEN NOT TO GO TO SEA

Panaji (GOA) Predicting heavy to very heavy rains along Goa coast for next few days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned fishermen from venturing into the sea for next 24 hours owing to rough sea condition.
“Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over all district of Goa State today and August 30,” the IMD said in its weather bulletin released this evening.
IMD has advised fishermen not to go out in the sea during next 24 hours. “Winds will be westerly to north-westerly speed 45-50 kmph, temporarily/momentarily reaching 60 kmph in gust/squall. Sea will be rough with north -westerly waves,” it said.
After initial dry spells, the south-west monsoon picked up in the State in last couple of days, with heavy rains lashing entire State.
The totals seasonal rainfall so far has touched 75 inches.
