Panaji (Goa): As the code of conduct is finally lifted, the BJP has come out openly against the defamatory remarks made in one of the articles, published in a Church-backed magazine.
The alleged it was conspiracy and polarization of voters, indirectly helped by the Church.
“What is this nonsense? It is sheer nonsense. The Church should see such things do not come from them. The magazine is published though the Church-backed body. I feel it should take care about the contents and the manner in which such articles are published,” BJP’s vocal legislator from Curchorem Nilesh Cabral said at a press briefing this evening.
The MLA was referring to an article wherein the Central and the State government are targeted in a defamatory language. “In 2012 everyone thought in terms of having a corruption free Goa; this thinking continued till 2014 but from then and cinreasingly everyday what we are witnessing in India is nothing but a constitutional holocaust. Corruption is very bad, communalism is worse but Nazism is worse than both,m” reads an extract from the article.
“The country is being ruled by one or two men and the rest are mere henchmen and running dogs. Please don’t vote for a person who is mere subaltern of such individuals,” it further said.
The article was released at the time when Panaji and Valpoi were going for by-polls on August 23. Cabral said they were not bothered about defamation but such statemetn coming from Church’s mouth was not expected.
He also claimed that BJP’s win in both the constituencies is an answer to such articles. “The government is sensitive to all issues,” he said claiming he will write to the Church not to repeat such things again.
cases have been registered and 84 persons including 21 foreigners are arrested.
