An online petition to the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has been initiated by one Mahesh Sardesai, to support the entry of taxi aggregators OLA and UBER in Goa.

“Tourism is the backbone of Goa’s economy and tourists across the world are used to services like OLA/UBER, it’s time to allow them to operate in Goa,” Sardesai says in his petition.

In the petitition, Sardesai claims that Goan taxi drivers never use the taxi meters required by law and charge exorbitant rates for their services. He also states that the aggregators will provide jobs to the locals.

Sardesai explains that, with cheaper commuting brought through taxi aggregators more people including locals will begin to use the taxis resulting in less people using their own cars thereby reducing the congestion in the cities which will further result in lesser parking problems and a better overall environment.

Some of the other benefits cited in the petition are that it will boost tourism and provide cheaper commuting for all with no return fare, along with convenient payment (cashless) with easy to calculate fare.

According to our latest report the petition has gathered 3,150 signatories.
