MARGAO (GOA)

The Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) while criticising the Margao Municipal Council for wastage of public funds on wrong priorities, today exposed the highly deplorable state of the municipal vehicles and the affairs of the maintenance section.

The SCM, displaying images of the sorry state of municipal vehicles, criticised the council for seeing priority in purchasing of new luxury vehicles while brand new vehicles are left to rust at the municipal garage at old market.

SCM convener and former chairperson Savio Coutinho revealed that the drivers are subjected to a lot of hardships as they have to drive the vehicles with several unattended defects. Mocking at the council’s vehicle maintenance, Coutinho said that the council deserves to be awarded for choosing to use household fittings like bell switches and window latches for their trucks. “In fact, when the pictures were shown to some prominent citizens, they instantly remarked that these vehicles should be part of carnival parade and the MMC would surely bag a prize”, Coutinho stated.

The SCM further pointed out that the previous council had spent 1.68 lakh and made two cabins, one for the engineer and the other for the drivers as a changing room.

The Shadow Council for Margao warned the MMC not to take public money for granted. If streamlining of vehicle maintenance is not seen within a period of one month, necessary measures to pin responsibility shall be taken by the SCM.
