Panaji (Goa) The liquor outlets in the municipal areas have a good news. Their licenes would be renewed by Excise department.

The renewal of the licences of the liquor outlets which are alongside the highways was kept on hold following Supreme Court directively. The department has said that the SC has amended its order allowing renewal of licences for the liquor outlets in the municipal jurisdiction.

State Excise Commissioner Amit Satija has issued the order that the licences in the retail liquor shops located within the municipal area of Valpoi, Sanquelim, BIcholim, Mapusa, Ponda, Curchorem-Cacora, Sanguem, Margao, Mormugao, Cuncolim and Canacona and City of Corporation of Panaji would be renewed.

The commissioner has said that the licences would be renewed provided “all the other requirements for grant or renewal of licences are fully met as provided under Goa Excise Act and Rules, 1964.”

The SC  in its order on December 15, 2016 had issued directions that all the liquor licences along Highways should not be renewed beyond April 01, 2017.

The order had affected around 3,000 odd outlets but the State government had then denotified certain sections of the roads from the list of Highways providing relief to many outlets.
