Panaji (Goa) The State Tourism department has begun conducting site inspections along various coastal belts to be developed central government’s Swadesh Darshan scheme.

Earlier this week, Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar conducted the site inspection at Betul and adjourning beach areas along with local MLA and leader of opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar. The MLA placed various beautification works required to be undertaken along the coastal area.

On Wednesday, Ajgaonkar along with Minister for Housing Jayesh Salgaonkar inspected the Coco beach in Nerul and the Quedevelim beach and the area near Reis Magos fort.

Discussions were held in regards the feasibility of implementing various beautification projects in the area and providing facilities such as changing rooms, mobile toilets, dustbins, benches, illumination, pavers- at these spots for locals and tourists.

Site inspections for identification of areas for setting up of public conveniences  will be completed latest by September 20.

Goa Tourism has received Rs 200 crore (Rs 100 crore in the first phase and Rs 100 crore in the second phase) from the Central government under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme for setting up tourism infrastructure in the State.

Coastal areas that will get a fillip under the coastal circuit development plan phase I include Morjim-Keri, Anjuna-Vagator, Sinquerim – Baga. The phase II will include Miramar, Dona Paula, Baina, Colva,  Agonda, Palolem,Benaulim, Cavelossim, Mobor and many others.
