ANJUNA (GOA)
The Goa State Pollution Control Board has ordered the revocation of the consent to operate under Water and Air pollution Act to Curlies shack located at Anjuna.
The order was passed in connection with the application moved by social activist Kashinath Shetye in National Green Tribunal (NGT). The NGT had ordered the pollution control board to revisit the consent granted to the controversial shack.
The board in its order issued today has asked the shack owner to stop the operation with immediate effect after his consent was withdrawn.
“The consent to operate order dated March 3, 2016, issued by the board to Curlies restaurant and bar located at Anjuna shall be revoked forthwith,” reads the order issued by GSPCB official Dr Mohan Girap.
The board during its hearing found that the no objection certificate (NOC) provided by the shack to seek consent under The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and The Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 was invalid.
“The NOC was dating back to the year 2014-15, while the consent to operate was sought for the year 2016 onwards,” the board sources stated.
