Panaji (GOA) Union Secretary for department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, C Vishwanath today stated that the Good Governance Index, which will be kept open for stakeholders’ inputs, will help in generating health competition among the States and tracking the progress made by each.
Vishwanath said that the draft Good Governance Index will be open for suggestions from stakeholders including the State government. “The advantage of having a Good Governance Index is that there can be healthy competition generated among states and it helps to track the progress each state is making,” he said.
He was speaking while addressing civil servants from all over the country at the inaugural of the Regional Conference on ‘Good Governance and Replication of Best Practices’ in Dona Paula.
Vishwanath said that the ultimate objective of a good governance programme is that the people should benefit from it. He said that the replication of best practices in good governance is an important agenda of the Government of India and states can modify and adapt the best practices based on the local requirements.
Speaking on the Prime Minister awards instituted to recognise priority programmes implemented in the country, he said such awards helps to develop healthy competition among districts and makes everyone work harder towards implementation of priority programmes and out-of-the-box thinking in good governance which has been the vision of the Prime Minister.
