Panaji (GOA) In a major move, Minister for Fisheries Vinod Palyekar has directed suspension of his director Shamila Monteiro over irregularities in the Radio Frequency Identification Cards (RFID) contract.

Minister Office confirmed that Palyekar has recommended to the Government for suspension of the director, for alleged involvement in the irregularities.

Monteiro was issued notice by the Secretary Fisheries earlier this month, over the entire delay in the issuance of the cards.

Even after 45 days of commencement of the fishing season, the fishermen are not issued RFID cards, failing which they are not able to venture into the sea.

Minister had last month ordered inquiry into the entire delay in issuing the RFID cards, following the opposition and ruling benches created noisy scene in the State Assembly.
