Panaji (Goa) Anti Corruption Branch has finally filed FIR against Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar for having assets which are not in proportionate to his known source of income.
The case against him was filed in the year 2012. ACB had conducted preliminary inquiry and referred the report to State government in the year 2013. And Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma gave his assent to file FIR yesterday, in the year 2017.
“We have received go ahead from the State government to file FIR against Kavlekar in connection with the disproportionate assets beyond his known source of income,” Superintendent of Police (ACB) Bosco George said.
He said that the assets are worth Rs four crore which are more than his proportionate income. “We are conducting further inquiry into the matter,” he said.
George said State Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma on Friday had cleared the file regarding FIR against Kavlekar.
ACB sources on the condition of anonymity said that the sleuths would be raiding the house of Kavlekar at Betul, Quepem during the day. “He has been questioned in the past regarding this case. We might call him for interrogation again,” a senior official said.
