Panaji (GOA) The much delayed dedicated mining corridors project, for ferrying the iron ore from the leases to the jetties bypassing the village areas, is all set to take shape.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has given green signal to the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) for going ahead with the project in phase manner.
As such, the corporation has decided to tender the first phase of the project- between Uguem and Guddemol, having a stretch of around 8.9km, by October end.
“We will tender the project latest by October end. The work will commence immediately, thereafter,” GSIDC chairman Deepak Pawaskar told reporters.
Pawaskar said that the corporation will require at least three years time to complete the entire three-phase mining corridor.
The proposed second phase is between Guddemol and Capxem with a stretch of 8.4km, while the third phase of around 32km stretches between Cavrem and Uguem.
It was in 2011 when then Chief Minister Digambar Kamat had mooted the idea of having dedicated mining corridors for the State.
In January 2013, then BJP-led government scrapped the project and decided to hold back the proposal till resumption of mining activities, which had halted in September 2012.
The iron ore activities in State resumed in November 2015.
