Dabolim, Goa: The air intelligence unit of Goa Customs today seized unclaimed gold worth Rs 34 lakhs which was hidden below a seat in Air India flight which arrived this morning.
“While performing duties during arrival of Air India flight AI-994 today the officers of air intelligence unit of Goa customs rummaged the aircraft and found one packet wrapped with black adhesive tape,” the press note issued here by Goa customs reads.
“The packet was containing eleven of gold bars weighing 1280 grams beneath one of the passenger seat of the aircraft,” it adds.
The officers of Air Intelligence Unit inquired about the ownership of the packet but nobody came forward to claim the ownership, the note adds.
Goa customs have said that the total gold which was found in the packet is worth Rs 34 lakh which was seized under the provisions of section 110 and 111 of customs act.
This is seventh seizure case made by Air Intelligence team of Goa customs in the month of April 2007 itself, the officials said.
Similar case of unclaimed gold seizure by Air Intelligence unit of Goa customs was done on April 23, totally weighing 320 grams valued at Rs 8.68 lakh wherein a passenger had left his hand baggage in the aircraft.
During the month of april 2017 itself, team of AIU has seized gold totally weighing 2.4 kilograms of gold valued at Rs 66.24 lakh and foreign and Indian currencies equivalent to Indian Rs 40.26 lakhs.
