It was usual inspection for health minister Vishwajit Rane at Goa medical college and hospital, but  was emotionally shocked when 15-year-old girl pleaded to him to save her life.

The minister who was inspecting the functioning of dialysis unit in GMCH was surprised to see 15-year-old from Chorao whom he had felicitated in dance competition, begging to save her life.

The girl has lost both her kidneys and is regularly subjected to dialysis.

“What can you do save my life?,” the girl questioned the health minister who was shell shocked.

Then what happened was unprecedented. Following minister’s instructions, GMCH authorities swung into action. The girl was today referred to specialist and the possibility of kidney transplant was being worked out.

Her parents have agreed to donate their kideneys but currently medical check ups are being done on them to check whether their organ can be transplanted in her.

The minister has strictly instructed that all the possible steps should be taken to ensure that the girl is taken care of. The procedure to transplant kidney has been expedited and the girl has been given special attention, a senior GMCH official said.

“I was touched when she asked me what I can do to save her life. As a health minister and human being, I am duty bound to do anything possible to get her back into proper health,” Rane said.
