Margao (Goa)The Shadow Council for Margao criticized the MMC for its lack of seriousness in implementing the Swatch Bharat Abhiyan.
Commenting on the MMC’s “walkathon” and cycle rally to create awareness on collection and segregation of waste, the SCM *expressed disappointment over the very poor participation of MMC councillors with only 5 out of 25 councillors participating in the program*.

” It appears that the MMC is *looking out for opportunities to exhaust the funds allocated under Swatch Bharat Abhiyan*. Madgaonkars are interested in knowing when the segregated waste collection will commence, and *do not subscribe to the wasteful expenditure on publicity stunts*”, convenor of SCM Savio Coutinho stated.

The council has *already spent lakhs on advertising it’s grandiose plans for segregated waste collection which has not taken off till date*.
SCM further stated that according to information available, the program was selectively planned and executed. Certain *workers like sweepers and those involved in clearing of drains and nallahs were not given due recognition for their contribution* to the cleaning of the city.

The SCM has appealed to the council to spend the funds allocated under Swatch Bharat Abhiyan judiciously and “not to indulge in throwing away the money on productive experiments”.
