Margao (Goa) State Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai has announced that lamani community would not be allowed to sale retail fish in the market.

“Challenge accepted! Will ban retail sale of fish by Lamanis as a start,” Sardesai said in a public statement made through his tweeter account, quoting a news in local media which spoke about sale of fish by unauthorized people.

While Sardesai was not available for his comment as he was busy in holding meeting with the Goan retail fish vendors over the issue, his party colleague and State Fisheries Minister Vinod Palyekar said “retail fish selling cannot be allowed in wholesale fish market.”

“I stand by my leader Vijai Sardesai in this crackdown against retail trade at wholesale fish market. We need to streamline the things. Whoever is doing the retail trade at wholesale market will be dealt strictly,” he said.

“We stand by our leader Vijai Sardesai’s commitment of Goem, Goenkar, Goemkarponn (Goa, Goans, Goanness),” the minister added.
State Tourism minister Manohar Ajgaonkar in the past had stired the controversy after he announced that lamani community members involved in the trade in the coastline would be banned.

After receiving flak for his statement, the minister had later retracted his words claiming that he was not pointing out to any particular community.
