HELPLESS GOA FISHERIES MINISTER TO APPROACH PM FOR UNIFROM BAN ON LED FISHING

PANAJI (GOA) Finding himself helpless in regulating LED fishing outside 12 nautical miles, the State Fisheries Minister Vinod Palyekar has decided to take up the crucial issue before Prime Minister Narendra Modi for protection of marine resources. 
 
Palyekar said that he will be writing to Prime Minister requesting for uniform policy banning LED fishing beyond 12 nautical miles. ” We are still receiving complaints that some fishermen are involved in LED fishing despite ban,” Minister said. 
 
He also said that the issue would be raised with the neighbouring Karnataka and Maharashtra brining to their notice how vessels from their state are carrying out fishing in territorial waters of Goa. 
 
Palyekar also explore possibility of amending the Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1980, to futher strengthen the regulation on fishing. The amendment will also focus on conserving fisheries resources.
