The District Magistrate cum Adjudicating Officer of North Goa Nila Mohanan imposed penalty of Rs 25,000  each on Durgaprasad Kukalkar, owner, and Bahdur BK, food vendor, of a Sanquelim based fast food centre, for selling/manufacturing ‘chicken pakoda’ which was declared and reported as substandard after the food checking officers detected non-permitted synthetic food colour.

After conducting, hearing and going through laboratory report, the officer, under the provisions of the food safety and standard Act, 2006, penalised the duo. “Both the parties admitted to the violation and has also stopped the activity of operating the firm M/s Decent Fast Food, Sanquelim,” a press release said.

Over a week ago, two other food business operators were penalized of Rs 30,000 each for selling misbranded dry snacks. Their consignment was seized from Margao railway stations and a case was registered with the authorities for action.
