The Crime Branch-formed Special Investigation Team (SIT) are leaving no stone unturned to ensure Goa’s ex-chief minister Digambar Kamat’s custody. The sleuths are set to oppose his anticipatory bail scheduled for hearing on May 2. The Congress loyalist is currently on ex-parte ad-interim anticipatory bail into the infamous illegal mining case.
“We will oppose his anticipatory bail application tooth and nail,” SIT Chief Priyanka Kashyap told this reporter.
This would be a litmus test for the politician as he has been lucky to have escaped arrest in the two year old Louis Berger international bribery scandal,till date.
In the present case, he has alleged of being a victim of political frenzy. ” I am being victimised and harassed by the BJP government for oblique reasons from the time it assumed power in Goa in 2012 as the largest party,” he said in the anticipatory bail plea.
He brought the attention of the court to the 2015-case wherein Crime Branch (CB), investigating the LB scam challenged his anticipatory bail till the Supreme Court. The CB had summoned and interrogated him at least four times during the entire course of the investigation and also assisted the Enforcement Directorate in raiding his residential and office premise to gather evidence related to the case.
