One Asif Iqbal, aged 25, native of West Bengal and presently residing at Mapusa, drowned at Siquerim beach on Monday afternoon at 3:30 PM.

The deceased who was working as a labourer at Mapusa had come to Siquerim beach with his friends and had climbed on to the rocks to click pictures. While Iqbal and his friends were indulged in taking selfies, a large wave emerged and pulled Iqbal into the sea.

The lifeguards present at the scene quickly swung into action and managed to pull Iqbal out of the water.

After removing Iqbal out of the water he was rushed to Primary health centre at Candolim where he was declared dead.

The body has been sent to Goa Medical College, Bambolim for post mortem examination.
