Panaji (Goa) The recent incident of State health department issuing show cause notices to two top officials – Dean GMC Pradip Naik and Director of Health Services Dr Sanjiv Dalvi – indicates the rot that has set in this one of the most important unit of the government.

These two officers seems to have been facing wrath of State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane who has been dealing with the inefficiencies in the Goa Medical College and Hospital and in the department.

This is the second show cause notice issued to Dr Dalvi, the first being when there were not enough medicines available at Primary Health Centre in Panaji.

The affairs of GMCH are known to the people in Goa and those from neighbouring State who avail the benefit of this facility here. The hospital is known for its best doctors and healthcare, fails miserably when it comes to hygiene front.

This is despite the fact that there is dedicated housekeeping agency which has been employed by GMCH, which already has a lower staff meant to keep the cleanliness.

Overflowing toilets, stray dogs menacingly prying at the patients, dust, dirt and the garbage strewn around are not a new thing to the people who visit this premier institution.

The things were looking at change when Rane took over. While Rane has been known for his aggressive approach towards the GMCH, his presence seems to be making difference in this institution.

Being Health Minister, Rane has given his topmost priority to improvement of GMCH’s existing facilities besides trying to introduce new ones. It wont be a mistake if we say that former health minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s few of the wrong decisions reflect in the current scenario of this hospital.

Huge pile of garbage that was within the  GMCH complex was clearly reflecting the failure of former rulers. The pile stands clear now making proper parking space there for the patients and their relatives.

Despite several warnings, the things in GMCH on the hygiene and cleanliness front seems to be not improving till date.

The show cause notice issued to the Dean and Director Health Services exposes their lethargic attitude, if the content in the notice are believed to be true.

If these contents are true then there is every reason for Vishwajit Rane to get ‘gussa’ at such kind of officials as his ‘gussa’ will work for the betterment of the State.
