Panaji (Goa) Stating that few central committee of the party are ‘unhappy’ with the BJP-led government, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party today said that they are waiting and watching the performance of government for next six to eight months before taking the next step.
MGP President Dipak Dhavalikar addressing mediapersons after chairing the central committee also said that the party is making ground work to contest upcoming Lok Sabha poll on their own. MGP is a coalition partner in BJP led State government.
“Few of our members were unhappy over the functioning of State government. They feel that the administration has collapsed in the State. The party has decided that it will wait and watch for six to eight months and if something objectionable is found then the further action would be taken,” Dhavalikar said.
He refused to state that the party will withdraw support from BJP led government but said that they have been keeping close watch on the performance of the State government.
Responding to a question about the vexed issues, Dhavalikar said that the State government has failed to solve the issue of off shore casinos, drugs, unemployment and others.
Dhavalikar said that the party’s central committee today decided to prepare to contest the upcoming lok sabha polls. “The members opined that the party should fight upcoming lok sabha polls on their own and we should start the preparations for the same. The party will expand its work in various constituencies,” he said.
He recalled that MGP has polled 13 per cent votes during last state legislative assembly election. “We are getting prepared to contest Lok Sabha poll but final call would be taken at later stage, may be six months prior to the polls,” Dhavalikar said.
He said the party has decided to restart the work in all those constituencies where it had contested during last assembly election.
Dhavalikar refused that they are part of the coalition with the BJP in the State but claimed that the current support to the government was only because none of the party got majority during last assembly election.
“We don’t have coalition with BJP. We discontinued the coalition with them in the year 2017 (before election). BJP sent us the proposal to support them form the government, which was accepted with the condition that Manohar Parrikar should return to the State,” he added.
Dhavalikar also said that they are yet to receive any proposal from BJP to join National Democratic Alliance (NDA). “The party is not a part of NDA. We are yet to receive any such proposal. Once we get it, we will then decide,” he said.
