Panaji (Goa) In what could led to further troubles for the iron ore mining industry in Goa, which is yet to resume for the season, the Goa Foundation has approached Supreme Court pleading for reduction in annual ore production cap from existing 20 million tons to 12 million tons.

Goa Foundation, the initial petitioner before the Supreme Court in the illegal mining case, earlier this month moved an intervention application seeking reduction in the annual production limit for the State to 12 million tons.

The move comes at a time when the Apex Court was expected to consider to increase the production limit for the state to 30 million tons as proposed by the Expert Committee.

The matter is supposed to come up for hearing on October 26.

The expert committee in its final report has recommended enhancing the fresh ore production cap to 30 million tons.
