Panaji (Goa): Shiv Sena in Goa has accused Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar of trying to defend himself by shielding behind his supporters.
This is what Sena has said in a press note today:
Shiv Sena is highly shocked to see how Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar is pushing his cronies to fight his agenda and hide his failures. The recent press conference by two longer rung Congress leaders in Margao to defend Kavlekar indicates how he has been hiding behind the curtains to avoid answering some uncomfortable questions which would be posed by mediapersons.
Sena had taken up a cause of illegal sale of liquor in Kavlekar’s constituency in the interest of public. It was not a political but a social issue. We had even provided the proof of how women in the area were upset and protesting against the panchayat, which is in Kavlekar’s constituency.
It would have been fair on the part of Kavlekar to defend himself rather than sending two tutored Congressmen who are his cronies and who could not even spell names properly to praise him. Both congress leaders seems to have been smitten with actress Rakhi Sawant.
Shiv Sena wants to know why Kavlekar is entirely silent on his links with the matka gambling. There is no denial of the fact that matka slips were found at his residence.
If those slips do not belong to him he should be able to explain who brought it in his house. Congress party should have come in public to tell the voters and Goans in general why their leader is keeping several hundred matka slips, if he is clean and not connected to the trade.
Savitri Kavlekar, wife of Babu, who is also booked by Anti Corruption Branch for assets disproportionate to their known source of income should also come out in public and condemn action of her husband, as she claims herself to be a politician with clean image.
The silent support given by Chandrakant Kavlekar to the illegal liquor trade in his constituency also indicates that he is providing protection to the activity. Sena has already began investigating at their own level about the illegal liquor trade and will soon bring out facts linking him to it in public domain.
Public in general would admit that Congress being a lame opposition party has failed to expose the State government. The skeletons in the cupboard of their leader of opposition have also stopped other congress leaders from speaking against the state government. It is Shiv Sena that has been raising issues against the government due to which the support base has been increasing.
We appeal Kavlekar to come open in public and fight his own battle rather than making some small time leaders to get into verbal dual with the party like Shiv Sena.
