Panaji (Goa): An ATM guard who foiled a robbery attempt despite being struck nearly 11 times on head with a hammer, will be honoured by the Goa Police for his bravery this evening.
In a message circulated to the media, Director General of Police Muktesh Chander has termed security guard Ranav Singh’s act as commendable.
“Goa Police has decided to felicitate the security guard Ranav Singh who did a commendable job by bravely averting the attempt of robbery made at a Bank of Maharashtra ATM in Panaji in the wee hours of 27.10.2017. You are requested to grace the occasion in order to boost his morale,” he said.
The unarmed guard had put up a valiant fight and although he was wrestled to the ground by the unidentified robber, Singh managed to foil robbery attempt.
A CCTV footage of the entire act also shows the guard’s bleeding head. He was also seen trying to chase the robber after snatching the hammer but the latter managed to escape. The Panaji police have registered an offense and launched a massive manhunt to nab the accused, who is likely to be charged with attempt to murder besides attempt to rob an ATM centre.
The crime incidentally happened hardly 100 mtrs from the police head quarters and Panaji police station.
