Panaji (Goa) In an effort to regulate the iron ore transportation activities, the State Government has warned to cancel the registration of the trucks, which involves in violation of rules and in creation of law and order situation. Government has restricted one truck per family for the transportation business.
Following a joint meeting with the MLAs from the mining belt and truck owners, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar banned transportation of ore during the school hours, while restricting the speed limit to 40 kilometers per hour.
Further, notwithstanding the opposition from the truck owners, the Government is firm on its decision of Rs 2 hike in the iron ore transportation charges. As per the new rates, trucks will be paid Rs 12.50 per kms per tone for the first nine kilometers, Rs 12 per kms per tons between 10kms to 20kms and Rs 11.50 kms per ton for above 20 kms.
Speaking to media persons, Parrikar said that those trucks who violate rules and create disruption resulting into law and order will be de-registered for the mining operations.
“The trucks registered with the department of mines, will be categorized according to routes of operations and leases, where they are operated,” he said.
The transportation timing shall be from 6.00am to 7.00pm with stoppage of transportation from 7.30am to 8.30 am and from 1.00pm to 2.00pm taking into consideration the school timings.
The road tax payable by the truck owners to the RTO will be considered for quarterly payment instead of annual.
