Panaji (Goa): Goa will host the Nobel Prize Series-India 2018 (Science Impacts Life) event in February 2018.

Goa Government today executed a trilateral MoU with the Department of Bio-Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India and Nobel Media, Sweden with regards to a proposed event which will be held from February 1-28, 2018 along with a month-long exhibition brought from Nobel Museum, Sweden.

The event will be jointly organized by Department of Bio-Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India in collaboration with Nobel Media, Sweden and Department of Science and Technology.

“Science has been my strength and weakness since I believe that every aspect of the world, including Governance, is a scientific exercise. Science is logical and the best thing that has happened to mankind. It is very important to encourage people towards pure science rather than technology,” Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said after signing the MOU.

Parrikar also stated Science is a core issue of knowledge and an important aspect of education and hence we must push it as a fundamental aspect of any education. “Scientific thinking allows you to acquire more knowledge; rather it makes you like a sponge. This event is very important for educational up gradation,” he stated.

Director, Department of Biotechnology K. Vijay Raghavan said that the ministry is very excited to host the event in Goa. “Goa has been extraordinarily adventures in taking on changes in the world. This scientific cynosure will allow the young Goan to emulate with Nobel laureates around the world and to take on formidable challenges against any odds in the future,” he said.

CEO Nobel Media AB, Sweden Mattias Fyrenius said Nobel is widely regarded as the most prestigious award in the world since 1901. “The Nobel community is honored to sign the MoU. This event should be seen as a celebration of science and education. The Nobel series earlier organized in Gujarat was a huge success and we are looking forward to this event,” he said.
