Panaji (Goa): The Goa government is contemplating the possibility of increasing the spending on the educational sector to 5-6 percent of the gross domestic product, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said.
At present, the spending on the sector stands at 3.4 percent.
Parrikar made this announcement during a press conference where he had presented the detailed analysis of the spending of the state during the current fiscal.
The chief minister said the current allocation for the educational sector which is around 3.4 percent of the GDP is highest in the country and much more than the national average.
He said that the state government which has decided to make education a priority area will increase the spending to 5-6 percent of the GDP in the coming years.
