Rane charge-sheeted in Dhargalim toll booth attack case

Pernem (Goa): Four years after he allegedly smashed the toll booth at Dhargalim, Maharashtra’s MLA Nitesh Rane has been charge-sheeted under various offences by Pernem police.

The charge-sheet is filed by police before Judicial Magistrate First Class, Pernem which has accused Nitesh and eight others of being involved in toll booth attack.

They have been booked under various sections dealing with rioting, assault on government servants, damage to public property and others.

Nitesh, who is son of former Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane, was then member of Lok Sabha from Sindhudurg constituency.

“The charge-sheet is filed before Judicial Magistrate First Class in Pernem,” police inspector Rahul Parab said.

On December 3, 2013 when Rane who was heading towards Goa from neighboring Sindhudurg district was stopped at Dhargal toll booth asking to pay the entry tax.

The Goa government has imposed entry tax on the non-Goa registration vehicles that are entering the State.

As per the police complaint filed by then inspector Tushar Lotlikar, Rane and his supporters tried to assault the workers collecting toll, smashed the boom barrier and also ransacked the cabin installed at the booth.
