Panaji (Goa): In a bid to provide quality service to the patients treated at ICU units of the government-run hospitals including GMC, the State government is planning to outsource the medical service at these units.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane is in talks with doctors from various medical fields and consultants in Mumbai to provide the service at ICUs in the government hospitals.

“ICUs are the heart of hospitals. But what we see is very unfortunate. We are lacking the professional staff to manage these ICUs. We need best quality service to treat the patients,” Rane told TNV.

He said that the proposal is still in planning stage and the decision on it will be taken in next few months.

Rane said that he is basically trying to follow the model adopted by hospitals across the country, in a bid to strengthen the service at GMC and ICU department by bringing in experts from various medical fields to provide their service.

He said that the consultants will bring in their expertise and interventionists for the treatment of the patients here.
