Panaji (Goa) The Congress Legislative Party (CLP) today resolved to oppose the proposed coal expansion project at Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) and the nationalization of six rivers by the Central government.
The CLP that met today under its leader Chandrakant Kavlekar has decided to write to State government expressing its concern and opposition to the two proposed projects, which are caught in major controversy following severe opposition from the locals.
“We will stand with the people in their opposition to coal expansion and river nationalization projects. We will ensure that government does not allow these two projects to take shape,” Kavlekar said after the meeting.
He said that both the projects are anti-people and that government should respect the sentiments of the people and scrap these projects.
“Everyone is aware that the so called nationalization of rivers is to benefit the private corporations. But Congress party will fight for the rights of people,” Kavlekar said.
The CLP has also urged government to immediately resolve the ongoing iron ore transportation issue through an amicable solution. “Mining activities has to resume in the State. People who are employed in this industry need to get the benefit and hence government need to come out with a amicable solution,” Kavlekar added.
