Panaji (Goa): Vedanta Limited in association with Goa Football Association (GFA) on 13th November 2017, organized the Draw ceremony for ‘Vedanta Women’s Football League’ at Caritas Hotel, St.Inez.The draw ceremony was held through a draw of lots where one bowl had the sequence and another had team names. Arjuna awardee and Ex-India captain Mr Brahmanand Sankhwalkar and Mr Eduard Battle Basart- Technical Director Sesa Football Academy picked up the chits and revealed the names of the competing teams. The Team captains were also excited to launch the new Team Jerseys on this occasion.
The Vedanta Women’s Football League was launched by the CM Manohar Parrikar on Nov 6th this year.
Elvis Gomes, President, Goa Football Association shared – “We are very happy with the response we got from Goa. It is overwhelming to see the appreciation we have been receiving at a national level. The league is going to create a definite platform for the women and girls of Goa and we hope that Goa is able to provide more such players to the national team.”
Sukhvinder Singh, CEO, Vedanta Football Project spoke on the occasion, “Vedanta and GFA have come together for this great initiative and we intend to take it to great heights. The enthusiasm seen at the ground level for this initiative is very evident. Our commitment to skilling women and empowering women through this platform intends to take women’s football to the top ranks on the national scene.”
Ms Juliana Gurjao, “Chairman, Women’s Committee GFA shared, “The number of applicants we have received have exceeded our expectations. We have tried our best to accommodate all the applications as we wanted to give these talented players a chance to showcase their skills on the field. The kickoff is scheduled on 18th Nov at the Duler stadium, Mapusa under floodlights and we look forward to supporting all sports enthusiasts cheering the teams.”
The participating teams include Flaming Orange by Sporting Club de Goa, Panajim Dolphins by Panjim Footballers, Cuncolim Warriors by the Cuncolim Union, SCC SOWS Football, Goa Velha Saints by Goa Velha SC and Albert’s Princesses by Albert Developers Sports Club
