More than a week after a fatal collision between two vehicles killed five persons, the sixth ‘critically injured’ victim succumbed today. NRI Shanal Pereira, who was driving the speeding car when it lost control resulting into the mishap on the Old Goa-Corlim highway, died at Goa medical college and hospital. Sub Divisional Police Officer Nelson Albuquerque told this reporter that the 38-year-old stopped responding to the medical treatment. “He was in the intensive care unit under direct supervision of senior doctors. But doctors informed us this morning that he succumbed to injuries,” he disclosed.
His wife Ruby and daughter continue to remain in critical stage. The accident goes back to April 17 evening when car driver Shanal allegedly lost control and dashed the four-wheeler against two passers-by, killing them on the spot. The car thereafter rammed into an oncoming truck, on the other lane. The impact of the accident was such that even the airbags was of not much help, and three car passengers – Natalie Pereira, Vrushali Bhoir and her four year daughter Manashree lost their lives. Whereas Saurabh Bhoir; Shannal, his wife Rupa, daughter Savia and son Shannon were left injured. Shannal, his wife and daughter were critically injured. The two Mumbai-based families – Pereira and Bhoir were on their way to entertainment place. While Pereira family had shifted their base to Goa three years back and purchased a bungalow just 8 days before the accident, Bhoir family was living with the Pereira’s during their short vacation here.
