AIRES CASE HANDED OVER TO CRIME BRANCH

Panaji(Goa) The Goa government has transferred the case accusing social activist Aires Rodrigues of sexual harassment to Crime Branch today, a senior official said.

A married woman had filed case before Anjuna Police accusing Rodrigues of outraging her modesty and sexual harassment on November 27.

The lady had claimed that the accused had linked her to the alleged sex scandal involving State Water Resources department minister Vinod Paliencar and posted her picture on the Facebook.

“The case has been handed over to the Crime Branch now. They will investigate the matter,” Police Inspector Chandrakant Patil, in-charge of Anjuna Police Station told TNV.

He said that police had began investigating the matter and statement of the accused and four to five more people was recorded.

Goa-based NGO Savera which had protested against police inaction in this case had demanded that the inquiry be handed over to Crime Branch.

Anjuna Police had booked First Information Report against Rodrigues under Sections 354 (A) (iv) (Sexual Harassment), 509 (words or gesture to insult modesty of a woman) and 500 (Punishment for defamation) of Indian Penal Code against Rodrigues.
