Udant and The Urban Health Centre initiated a campaign “All Women Rise up to Good health” with a Medical health camp at The Urban Health Centre to celebrate International Women’s week. Getting appropriate kind of health checkups is vital for every human being especially women as they neglect their health until the problems become serious. The medical camp aimed at bringing out awareness amongst the women about anemia and the general lifestyle illnesses that they may suffer from and evaluate the living conditions and determine the obstacles and challenges so as to work on solving their problems. The camp was organized for solely serving humanity, to take care of certain illnesses and to give women health care services for free.
The camp was conducted by professional doctors from GMC.The Doctor In charge, Dr. Amit Dias showed enthusiasm as he welcomed the patients and coordinated the event. The event had the Sarpanch of Santa Cruz Mrs. Diksha Kavlekar as the chief guest for the women’s week celebration. The event also had Dr. Seema Natekar, Senior Medical Officer and Mrs. Anita Pereira secretary of Udant, present. Dr.Akshaya Naik was the guest speaker and spoke about anemia, menstrual health and hygiene, Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer, Lifestyle altering diseases such as Hypertension, Obesity and Diabetes and sexually Transmitted Disease such as HIV AIDS. She emphasized that health checkups, screenings, tests, examinations and treatments at the early stages of the illness can help to cure diseases faster before it causes further complications. Further speaking about the symptoms and prevention, she requested the women present to watch for signs and symptoms of these diseases and to seek medical help at the earliest.
As the camp focused on preventive and medical care, there was a general screening and check up carried out with specific checking for anemia, diabetes and neurological issues with the help of Mr. Sanjay Nevagi from Merck India.
Dr. Amit presented all the female staff of the UHC with roses as a gesture of gratitude for their tireless efforts.The event saw a huge turn up of women of different age groups from in and around Santa Cruz which clearly indicates the urgent need for preventive and medical care.
