With an aim to make tourist hot-spots nuisance-free, the Goa government introduced a bill on Wednesday which bans drinking and cooking in open public spaces and beaches.

Tourism minister Manohar Ajgaonkar introduced the legislation in the Legislative Assembly.

The bill reads a fine of Rs 2000 for an individual and Rs 10000 for a group if found drinking or cooking in open public spaces and beaches.

No person engaged in the business of sale of liquor “will allow its customer to carry bottles/cans containing liquor in tourist places”, the bill says.

Tourism minister Ajgaonkar said the prime objective of the bill is to keep beaches and public spaces clean and free of nuisance
