BJYM SWEPT GU ELECTION UNOPPOSED

Panaji (Goa) Amid protests from the rival group, the panel of students supported by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) swept the Goa University student election, winning all nine posts unopposed. BJYM is the youth wing of ruling BJP.

While Goa University officials said the poll passed off smoothly, there were several reports of skirmishes between BJYM and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), which is backed by the Congress.

NSUI, NSC, CYSS Vidyarthi Sena and Jana Sena Students Force protested at Goa University demanding scrapping of the election process. The group has been demanding open elections to elect the Goa University Students Council (GUSC).

Urvesh Umesh Redkar Velingkar is elected as the new Chairman of student’s council while Nishikar Pundalik Raut Desai is the General Secretary.

Shambhavi Krishnaprasad Gadgil elected as lady representative, while Sandesh Galaya Palconda ,Dattaprasad Vinod Desai, Joseph Sebastiao Lobo ,Krishna Atmaram Gawas  and Sumedh Athalye got elected as members.
