Panaji (Goa) In what can be a major blow for Congress’ dreams to win Panaji by-election, former minister Babush Monserratte today joined Goa Forward party.
GFP being an alliance partner of BJP will not contest Panaji by-election which means Babush will not be in the fray now. The Congress party had already made up its mind to field Babush.
Babush joining GFP also means that he will ask his aide Congress legislator Tony Fernandes to resign from St Cruz constituency and have a by-election there.
If this happens, it will further reduce the strength of Congress to 15.
Babush had lost recent assembly election to BJP’s Siddharth Kuncolienkar.
GFP President Vijai Sardesai was personally present to welcome Babush in the party.
