Panaji (Goa): The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Surendra Furtado has decided not to let the house tax defaulters go scot free. After issuing directions to recover dues from the defaulters that also comprise of government buildings, the Mayor has decided to identify all the buildings in its jurisdiction that are not imposed house tax and not assessed t\for tax.
“Many buildings in the CCP jurisdiction which are not imposed house tax and not assessed for the tax although these buildings are occupied by the owners/purchasers after getting Occupancy Certificate or without any Occupancy Certificate. It is suggested that we constitute six teams of officials of the CCP to identify such buildings not imposed house tax and submit the list to this office within a period of 15 days. Thereafter the taxation Section shall take action to assess the house tax for these buildings in the next 15 days,” he said in a written communication to Commissioner Deepak Desai today.
Earlier last week, the Mayor had written to the commissioner asking to recover dues from the buildings that have failed to pay house tax. Among the major defaulters are Entertainment Society of Goa – Rs 1.47 crore, Customs & Central Excise -Rs 74.65 lakh-, Passport office -Rs 31.48 lakh- Department of Information and Technology’s newly inaugurated office at Altinho & the Department of Tourism of over Rs one lakh and Archdiocese of Goa’s Building in Mala -Rs 1.39 lakh.
