This Thursday, 14th March 6.30 pm at the Cinephile Film Club, Sachin Chatte will host the screening of the Chinese film Raise the Red Lantern directed by Zhang Yimou, one of the most well-known names in international cinema. The details of the film are as given below –

Based on the novel Wives and Concubines, Raise The Red Lantern, this visually stunning film is set in the 1920s and is about a young woman (Gong Li, of Memoirs of a Geisha fame) who finds herself in an unexpected situation. After her father’s death, she gets married to a wealthy man and becomes his fourth wife. She then has to adapt to the new surroundings and deal with the other women who also live in the same castle.
Nominated for the Academy Awards, it won the Silver Lion for Yimou at the Venice film festival and very often finds a place in the list of best films of world cinema.
