Panaji (GOA): Hours after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar released his coalition government’s Common Minimum Program (CMP), the Congress party has termed the documents as a ‘tom-tom’ exercise- a yet another hollow promise.
Speaking to reporters, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) general secretary Adv Yatish Naik said that the document reflects the directionless tendency of the BJP led government and it’s yet another effort to hoodwink the public.
“CMP is a ‘hack’ document. It is a tom-tom exercise undertaken without any direction and vision. It clearly reflects the directionless tendency of the government and its effort to hoodwink the public with false and hollow promises,” Naik said adding that the promises made in the documents will never be implemented.
Naik further alleged that the document is nothing beyond ‘cut-paste’ of BJP’s 2012 election manifesto. “The promises BJP made during 2012 election manifesto, are seen repeated in the CMP. The repeated promises are nothing but self admission of the failure of the then BJP government,” he commented.
Promises like making Goa garbage free, rehabilitation of slums, shifting of off shore casinos, speedy disposal of tenancy cases, housing for all, employment creation, new Regional Plan, protection to khazan land, quality education and tourism policy- all that reflects in the 2012 election manifesto as well as in the CMP.
The opposition questioned CMP silence on the crucial issues of zero tolerance to corruption, intolerance and the ongoing beef ban controversy. “BJP has promised in 2012 for Zero tolerance to corruption; however the promise vanished in 2017 and now it seems to be further dead as CMP has no mention about it,” Naik said.
He said that why CMP failed to assure people to handle the beef ban issue. “One side, its Minister is promising to write to centre opposing its notification that restricts cow slaughtering whereas, the CMP has no mention about it,” Naik said.
Congress was referring to Vijay Sardessai’s recent statement wherein he assured on behalf of the government to write to Centre opposing its notification, which has created much unrest.
