Panaji (GOA) With coalition partners jumping into Panaji by-election campaign appealing constituents to support Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Congress today claimed that desperation to win the polls has forced Parrikar to depend on his allies to woo the voters.
Speaking to reporters, Congress Panaji candidate Girish Chodankar said that fearing possible defeat, Parrikar has called on his coalition partners to salvage him
“I am a common man, who has no strong base. But even then Parrikar, who ruled the constituency for nearly 23 years, is today afraid of his defeat, and hence called on partners like Vijay Sardessai, Atanasio Monserrate, Rohan Khaunte, Sudin Dhavalikar, to salvage him. This is very unfortunate,” he said.
“Parrikar, the tall leader of BJP, who boasted of winning the election unopposed, today has accepted the defeat and called his coalition partners to support. Parrikar needs to introspect now,” he added.
MGP, Goa Forward Party and the Independents have announced their support to Parrikar, through series of media briefings it held since Friday.
Stating that certain BJP panjim workers have extended support to Congress, Chodankar said that the biggest challenge before Parrikar today is to convince his party workers.
He also challenged Parrikar to disclose how many houses he visits for the campaign so far. “He is holding corner meetings because he can’t face the questions of people,” Congress leader said.
