Panaji (Goa): A model code of conduct violation complaint has been filed against Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar alleging whipping religious sentiments by using religious places and priests for launching campaign for the upcoming by-election for the Panjim assembly seat.
In its complaint filed before the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Chief Electoral Office (CEO), local resident Sanjay Sarmalkar has sought disqualification of Parrikar from the by-election terming his act as complete violation of the code which came into force from July 27.
“I lodge my complaint against Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for committing gross violation of the model code of conduct on August 2 by indulging into the malpractice of whipping religious sentiments by using religious places and priests like Mahalaxmi temple and Immaculate Conception Church, along with more than thousands of supporters and press at the time of filing his nomination for the ensuing Panjim by-election,” the complainant stated.
“Direct CEO to conduct investigation into the complaint and file necessary FIR and also take necessary steps in accordance with law to disqualify the candidate,” he added.
The Panjim by-elections are scheduled to take place on August 23. Parrikar has filed his nomination on BJP ticket.
