PANAJI
Former Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Shantaram Naik today demanded to conduct a structural audit of new bridges being constructed over river Mandovi and Zuari and also other bridges being built on National Highway in Goa.
Naik, in a letter, addressed to Union Minister for Highways Nitin Gadkari, reminded of the major tragedy that struck the city of Varanasi, constituency wherein a section of an under-construction flyover collapsed killing several people.
“Two important bridges are being built over Mandovi and Zuari rivers, besides others. They are at various stages of construction. Therefore, an appropriate audit of these under-construction bridges be ordered,” Naik said in his letter.
Naik also demanded that the names of all the companies who have been awarded contracts, sub-contracts and other responsibilities be displayed at the site of the bridges along with other details.
Naik further added that this audit along with the quality control steps are essential and there should be no blame game as it was done in Varanasi.
