Panaji (Goa): The Congress party in Goa today said that they would be forming government in the State after the upcoming by-elections in two constituencies.
“The voters had completely rejected the BJP during the recently held State Legislative Assembly election but the party managed to form the government with the help of vested interests,” A Chellakumar, Congress in-charge of Goa said.
He said the results which were seen during the Assembly polls would be replicated during upcoming by-polls in two constituencies, increasing the tally of Congress seats in Goa Assembly.
“Once we have two more legislators added to our tally. We will have 18 legislators in the House and we will form the government with the support of other parties or independents,” Chellakumar said.
Goa will witness two by-elections one in Valpoi constituency, which has been necessitated due to resignation of Vishwajit Rane as MLA who also resigned from Congress to join BJP. Rane is currently a Minister in Manohar Parrikar-led Cabinet.
There will also be an election in another constituency as one of the BJP legislators will have to resign to allow CM Manohar Parrikar get elected to the State Legislative Assembly.
