Panaji (GOA) Following series of incidents of desecration of religious structures for last couple of days, the Congress party has raised fear about possible communal tension in Goa.
Addressing reporters on Thursday, All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary Girish Chodankar said that people have started getting feared as their religion is being attacked.
“We don’t want to politicize the issue. It is very sensitive matter. There is possibility that the issue can lead to communal tension in the State. We need to be vigilant,” he said.
“Government needs to be more vigilant on law and order front. The culprits need to be nabbed immediately before the situation goes out of control,” he said assuring that party will extend full support to Government in its action in the matter.
Chodankar questioned Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s absentee from the State and Country at this point.
“I don’t understand how Chief Minister can leave the State and Country at a time when such sensitive issues are happening and need uttermost attention,” he said adding ‘even if it was a personal visit, Chief Minister should have given a second thought’.
The AICC leader demanded that Parrikar should hand over the charge of CMO to his cabinet colleague in his absence, giving full powers to act in these sensitive matters.
Parrikar is on US trip from Thursday to July 13.
Chief Minister is on record to State that these are “purposeful and planned act’ with a specific attempt to create tension in the State. Government has already constituted Special investigating team to investigate into the cases.
