Panaji (GOA) Over a month after off shore casino vessel Lucky 7 grounded at Miramar beach, the Congress party has demanded detail study of ecological damage caused by the vessel to the beach by the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO).
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Shantaram Naik said that NIO needs to conduct detail study of the ecological damage caused by the casinos to the Miramar beach, which is one of the tourist attractions.
“The vessel which grounded last month has damaged the beach completely,” he said.
The party has also demanded that water of River Mandovi be tested by NIO and Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to know the pollution level due to the five off shore casinos anchored in the river.
“Whoever responsible for the damage action should be taken against them. Criminal case should be filed against those held accountable,” Naik said.
The Lucky 7 casino vessel, which initially got grounded at Aguada bay, was later drifted towards the Miramar beach a month back. As the conditions are not favourable, the towing process could not be initiated.
