COUNTING FOR PANCHAYAT POLLS BEGINS ACROSS STATE

Panaji (Goa): The counting of votes for the election of panchayat bodies which was held on June 11 began at 8 a.m.

In Panaji, the counting for Goa Velha panchayat was taken up first.

State election commission has made elaborate arrangements to count votes across Goa. The fate of 5223 candidates from 176 village panchayats will be known.

The panchayat polls held on Sunday received whopping response with as many as 80.33 percent voters’ turnout.

In North Goa, the voting percentage was at higher side- 83.16 percent, compared to the South- 77.68 percent.

While Bicholim taluka reported the highest voting percentage of 90.60 percent, the Salcete taluka saw the least response with 66.84 percent.

The counting for the polls will begin at 8.00am at 13 centres at the taluka level. Being ballot papers, the counting is expected to be concluded by noon.
