Panaji (GOA): The State Election Commission (SEC) on Friday postponed the counting of ten disputed panchayats for July 2.
The election of 15 wards from these ten panchayats, which were in litigation over reservation and delimitation issue, has been scheduled on July 1.
The counting for wards from the balance 176 panchayats will be held on June 13.
The ten panchayats include Curca-Bambolim, Merces, Anjuna-Caisua, Penha de Franca, Betki-Khandola, Advapal, Betalbatim, Nuvem and Sancoale.
Election Commissioner IAS RK Srivastava in a notification issued has said ‘the counting of all the wards of the ten affected village panchayats shall be taken up on July 2 instead of June 13’.
The poll aspirants from the concerned panchayats had approached High Court, who had then stayed the elections in these wards. However, the order was further stayed by the Supreme Court.
The High Court in a fresh order directed Government to complete the election process of these disputed wards by July 2.
